Orienteering
Orienteering is for anyone from the seasoned solo traveler to the perpetually lost. This 6-month course meets once weekly and is usually held in the woods of the Pinckney Recreation Area, where students can test their new skills as they learn. Currently this class is being held during the winter and spring months, and is a great way to stay active and outdoors during the off-season. We'll make sure you know how to dress for comfort before it gets cold.
Skills covered include:
- Map reading
- Compass use
- Efficient movement over terrain
- Navigation in low or no visibility conditions
- Improvisation of basic navigation tools
- Navigation without tools
The class ends with a day trip so you can use and review all the knowledge you've gained. Orienteering will be useful and enjoyable for hikers, hunters, travelers and anyone else who wants to feel more confident about where they are and how to get where they're going.
